你读什么专业？我知道北大有的专业的教授还是挺有分量的，如果读研究生，然后他们推荐一下，出来读好学校的ph.d的可能性是很大的。有offer，还能不要gre

我读的化学。不知道推荐信什么人写比较好，是要院士吗？
其实HARVARD那种只是做做梦啦，能有一个还不错的学校就很好了，呵呵

我同学就是化学的。不过现在这个专业签证会被check。
据说你们化学有几个很牛的教授阿，不在乎是不是院士，领域够牛就可以。他同学就是一个很牛的教授推荐去harvard了。

名校的硕士program很多都是所谓的cash cow，只要自费录取标准相对低的
但是签证可能的确是问题

名校的博士program更是cash cow，原因很obvious，我就不说了。
自费进像Stanford和MIT是绝对有可能的，问题是值不值得。反正我觉得是完全不值得。

如果是指理工科虽然拿了OFFER却要给老板卖苦力，文科基本上没那回事情的
再说了，professional development，赫赫赫....

Because the professor pays nothing to keep a person for 4-5 years, that's a saving of $200,000 to $250,000 over that period of time. If the person turns out to be "less productive", the professor has nothing to lose.

所以说找到能付钱让你读grad school的公司，然后再apply，不见得上牛校的chance就低。

像Bush这种人怎么能上Yale，还不是因为他家庭的地位和财富么？
