其實這個也看什麽field... 差別很大。

通常是用 "We" .
例句:

We discovered a new lower bound for the time complexity of
the processor scheduling problem.

比較特別的是，即時只有一個作者，也用We的, 不會用 I。

如果是写工程paper的话，就要避免用"We"和"I"，所以提倡用被动语态。

technical writing都會避免使用passive voice
就像小命說的用"we"這種first person開頭比較多
如果有到被動式重點都是在強調"被動的人事物"
至於philosophical writing用"i"開頭的paper倒是常常看到
一般來說大部分還是使用third person寫法 每個領域的格式還是不太一樣
建議可以參考journal上的文章就大概知道了:o:o

刚刚search了一些IEEE的journel，里面没有一个用"we"的，不过帖子题目是关于写英文论文，我想差距就在这里吧。

i have another question about consistency of tenses

i once used "first and foremost" in a data management report, and my teacher crossed it out....whywhywhy????

To me, it's incorrct. should be

i thought that the earth was huger than the sun.

the statement u claimed before was wrong as u emphasized that u THOUGHT~it doenst mean that AT THE PRESENT the earth is huger than the sun

the statement u claimed before was wrong as u emphasized that u THOUGHT~it doenst mean that AT THE PRESENT the earth is huger than the sun


Incidentally, it's not "huger" but "bigger". :D (At least, American English....)

bigger is not formal...that's it~

for size, huger, larger~
for value, greater~

ha~u got me.............i was thinking of this kind of situation cos I did see english ppl do the same!

precisely, it is incorrect. probably it depends on which part is more important. if u say what it was sami who told me bla bla bla, same tense within one clause. if u emphasize the stamtement whoever said that before, use different tense then....

i dont know........I need help (from MYRION><)
