I really wanted to do the Last Emperor, and finally I was asked. But I expected to do music first, but I was asked to do acting for the film. So I was surprised twice.
Bernardo is really really difficult to work with. He's like an artist in the 19th century, you know, really artistic. When I was working with him, I was all the time forced to do writing music more emotionally, more, more, more! You know his dialect--(so) "More!More!"--The "More"s. So I tried hard.
I'll tell you about my dream. To do "Beauty Live", I have to bring different musicians, many musicians from all of the world. And this band, this orchestra, I would say, I would call it Neo Geo orchestra. And what's "Neo Geo"? This means "new geography" or "new map". And this map is in my mind. In this map, like New York is beside Tokyo, is beside Beijing, beside Romania. It's democracy. And I think it's a dream, but music makes it real.
