Second only to automobile accidents, suicide is the leading killer of college students -- claiming the lives of an estimated 1,100 each year, according to the Jed Foundation. The American Association of Suicidology reports on its Web site that the suicide rate for 15-to-25 year olds is 300 percent higher than it was in the 1950s.

It is sad to know that. I guess it is also a matter of personality. I for one can't see anyway I would kill myself under normal circumstances. If I have metal issues then it could be another matter. Maybe that girl was suffering from depression.

Basically this means that if she was not alone then this may not have happened. How old was she? As an adult one should be able to deal with some loneliness. I guess then the question is then what age people should be before they leave China.

Most Chinese grads came to US for Ph.D were around 25 years old. But again you will be surprised at how fragile some people really are. Like in my school, a 30-year old professor killed himself last semester because his girlfriend dumped him.

我也有一个能力很强的同事，他生活说很没意思。每天工作不知道为了什么，会做饭也不想做，做了不知道给谁吃。
我还有一个同学的男朋友的同学，一个牛人，一个月可以挣很多的那种。他也说，工作没意思，没人花钱。
