Ex-governor, wrestler Ventura to teach at Harvard

BOSTON (Reuters) -- Is Harvard ready to rumble?

Jesse "The Body" Ventura, former governor of Minnesota, political pundit and pro wrestler, will soon teach at Harvard University, a university spokesman said Friday.

The college dropout will serve as a visiting fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government during the spring semester.

A visiting fellow gives seminars and oversees study groups that last up to three months. Students do not normally receive academic credits for such courses.

"The idea was given by our undergraduate students," said Andy Solomon, spokesman for the university.

Ventura, 52, was a guest speaker at the school in 1999.

The former governor spent six years as a U.S. Navy Seal in Vietnam, was a bouncer at bars, competed on the pro wrestling circuit and was featured in movies including "The Running Man" and "Demolition Man."

In 1990, he was elected mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and was elected Minnesota governor in 1998 as a member of the state's Reform Party.

After opting not to seek re-election in 2002, he became a political pundit and briefly hosted a weekend political commentary show on cable news network MSNBC. The show was taken off the air last month.

Somebody's comment (not mine):

"After opting not to seek reelection..." as someone who lives in minnesota i can tell you there is NO WAY Ventura would have ever been reelected anyway. The majority of those who voted Ventura and got him into office were college students and those in their 20s/early 30s. Once elected he turns around and attempts to severely cut college scholarships and other funding because "no one paid for his education." What a joke.
