In the May 2006 Issue (#72) of Official PS2 Magazine UK (pages 14-16), the PS3 is revealed almost fully (with the exception of price). For starters CEO Ken Kutaragi has stated that every month leading up to the November release, Sony's factorys roll out roughly 1 million PS3 units leading up to the November launch. From the start of Spring to mid-November there will be 8-9 million units if you do the maths right meaning that the launch will have shortages but not the near-catastrophic kind the X360 had.
Next up, the development community has expressed it's excitement over the delay. David Hasle from Monolith (of F.E.A.R and Condemned fame) said "That gives us more time to polish, playtest, and make a kick ass game!" which hints that Monolith is preparing something for the new console. Various other developers including Randy Pithcford of Gearbox said that he was pleased that Sony is catering to everyone by choosing a worldwide launch. Meanwhile, Hiroyuki Kobayashi (producer of Devil May Cry 4) said he anticipated that Sony would do this anyway- even going so far to say that a 2007 release would be even better.
Sony has officialy stated that the PS3 will have an integrated 60GB HDD (although they are unsure wether to launch with one built in- but it is extremely likely). They say that it will be a 'key component of the Playstation Network Platform' (Sony's answer to Xbox Live). They went on to reveal all about the PNP feature.
The PNP will feature XBL like 'handles' (a free account ehich when registered lets you choose a name), matchmaking lobbies (a la Halo 2), online rankings, game uploads/downloads which includes straight swapping of data between two PS3's, XBL like friends lists and avatars (an intersting thing is that the Eyetoy succsessor will take a photo of you and transform your face into a CGI avatar!), full voice/video chat which includes messaging, virtual shops for buying extras like PSP style updates and the biggest news of all which is game loading from HDD- this means that digital distribution will play a big role in the PS3's lifetime. Since full PSOne games are confirmed by Sony to be downloadable to PSP memory sticks later this year, we can expect the same thing to happen on the PS3.
Speaking of the HDD, it will act almost identiacally to the 360's HDD. It will store game saves, movie files, music, demos, movie trailers, back catalogues of PS1 games and Sony is looking into the possibility of full PS3 games to download.
As well as offering the backwards compatibility, the PS3 will be able to upscale all games- be it PS1 or PS2 games to the lowest form of HD- 480p which is a quality definition superior to that of normal SDTV output making your existing library super sharp. Another news snippet is that the PS3 is completely region free- following in the footsteps of the 360 which will enable you to play import games.
If all this info isn't enough, the games which will be in the launch line-up include-
John Woo's Stranglehold
Tekken
Sonic The Hedgehog
Resistence: Fall of Man
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Lair
Motorstorm
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
Sounds good to me because it includes the massively hyped Lair and Tekken which in the PS1 days was a system seller.

MGS4 creator Hideo Kojima will be inviting the boys from OPS2 UK to his studio to have an in-depth playtest and to see how the graphics are shaping up. Kojima-san will also be the guest editor of the OPS2 UK magazine next month. OPS2 jokes that he might even put cut-scenes between the pages! It hits the UK highstreet on May 18th and will feature secret games such as the Timesplitter's teams first PS3 game (Timesplitters ), a top-secret huge new LotR beating fantasy epic (TES IV: Oblivion ) and a terrifying PC horror shooter C.O.M.E.S to PS3 (try to guess what it is, it's on the 360 too ) and also a playtest of Sonic on PS3
