After trying to figure out why my x264 encodings were having horrible ickyness on trailers (lots of cuts and scene changes) I finally figured it out.
The B-Frame Direct Mode dropdown menu on the Partitions & Frames tab is passing the wrong settings.
Currently, the options are:
Auto
Temporal
Spatial
None
However, if you look at x264 and how it is supposed to be for -direct you get:
Auto=none
Temporal=spatial
Spatial=temporal
None=auto
So I set the dropdown menu to None and sure enough, it appears to be doing what auto should be doing.
I found this out by using Avinaptic to read the x264 info in the encoded files and after testing I came up with:
Auto=1
Temporal=2
Spatial=3
None=4
As you can see, the numbers correspond to the settings for -direct.
