It is sad to know that. I guess it is also a matter of personality. I for one can't see anyway I would kill myself under normal circumstances. If I have metal issues then it could be another matter. Maybe that girl was suffering from depression.

Basically this means that if she was not alone then this may not have happened. How old was she? As an adult one should be able to deal with some loneliness. I guess then the question is then what age people should be before they leave China.

Most Chinese grads came to US for Ph.D were around 25 years old. But again you will be surprised at how fragile some people really are. Like in my school, a 30-year old professor killed himself last semester because his girlfriend dumped him.

前一阵子和一个很牛的美国男生在图书馆里聊天
他说学习没动力，只想去PARTY缓解孤独
我说大学生活也不是那么terrible啊
他说：“你可不一样，你有男朋友。像我这种没有女友的，一个人深夜写论文写烦了空空荡荡四壁一环顾，还真不知道自己都在干些什么，总觉得没有意义也没有人支持。”

我也有一个能力很强的同事，他生活说很没意思。每天工作不知道为了什么，会做饭也不想做，做了不知道给谁吃。
我还有一个同学的男朋友的同学，一个牛人，一个月可以挣很多的那种。他也说，工作没意思，没人花钱。
