lately, I keep remenbering him.
what you saw at that castle on the windy night.. and what you saw at the bridge last night... how I smiles, never atter a word to anyone. If you dare speak.. ..I will find you wherever you are.. ..and I will kill you. .. I will rip you apart.. ..crash your bones and eat your flesh.. I will drink your blood I will.. ..devour you. ..把你吞食殆尽 yesterday, the elders told us this: after the script was invented, there was a time when books symbolized power. ..and laughing or speaking was considered taboo.
In the period that followed, all books from that time were burned.
at that time, I think it was a pretty stupid story.
but in the morning, when I saw snow flowers booming in the garden.. ..it became clear to me. the question that had puzzled me for 15 years was finally answered.
ah! now I see.
he was born in that age.
comedy
I was only five when all of this happened.
four days away on horseback from my village lies The Black Forest. another day on foot through The Black Forest.. will take you to ancient ruins known as The Demon's Castle.
I don't know when.. but a rumor had reached our village, telling of a lone swordsman living in that castle.
it was said he has uncommon features with black hair and pale skin. that he danced through the sky, handling his sword like the wind. and even in the dark, the starlight reflected off his sword made it look like day.
among those rumors, was a rather peculiar one.. ..that said he wouldn't accept money for his services.. but only rare books of a specific genre.
so, an idea crossed my mind.
on the day of the Harvest Festival, before the English attacked us.. I grabbed a book and left my home.
when I saw The Black Forest reflected on the surface of the lake, I forgot about everything.. ..and fell into a deep sleep.
or rather, fainted when passing through the forest.
I don't remenmber how long I slept. and there, I met him for the first time. yes...The Black Swordsman.
in a small room, surrounded by old books and swords, we exchanged words for the first time.
“I want you to save me, save my village, save my family. I want you to kill every one of the evil English soldiers!”
I pleaded desperately.
and when I finished, I handed him the book I had brought.
I don't know why, but I was confident that without a doubt.. it was this book he was after.
why, you ask? I have no idea.
after that, he didn't speak for a long time. but his gaze never left the book.
and then, on the second night, something changed.
I saw him smiling, ever so slightly.
"I'm victorious!" I thought. "now it is only a matter of time."
"I accept." “我接受” "I knew it!" I thought to myself. "I'm a genius."
In the morning, all that remained on the bridge was the red of spilled blood.. ..and a pile of steel armour, void of its bearers.
you want to know what happened to the bodies? I know, but I can't tell you. sorry, I made a promise.
“thank you.”
15 years have passed since that battle. Ireland gained its independence and peace returned to the village. the story of the Black Swordsman who single-handedly defeated a cavalry of 200 soldiers.. ..turned into a legend only to be told on days of festivals.
when everything was over, he whispered to me: "if you tell anyone, I will kill you." on the other side of The Black Forest, he's still reading that book. under the moonlight, I'm sure, on top of that tree.
