我那篇烂到极点的(烂到我差点不想上交)70页毕业论文……居然得了magna cum laude....(估计是平时的成绩救了我的命)
BTW, this is how it is determined in my department with regards to awarding honors:
summa cum laude (一年一个)
manga cum laude (一年四五个)
cum laude (一年七八个)
Dear XXX,
I am writing to inform you that the assessment procedure for this years graduating honors students is now complete. Your thesis was graded by your advisor and at least two other faculty graders. In addition, I skimmed each thesis myself. Then we collected the graders' scores and comments together, and matched them up with your transcript. With respect to the transcript, we were particularly interested in your GOVT grades, but we also considered your non-GOVT results as well. Finally, the undergraduate committee, consisting of myself, Professors Moehler and Kirshner, met together with Professor Bunce, our Chair, for intensive deliberations in which each student was compared to his or her peers. (You are certainly welcome to obtain a copy of the grading scores and comments for your own thesis; just stop by Bonnie's office and ask for a copy.)
On the basis of this assessment, I am pleased to inform you that we are awarding you an honors grade of Magna Cum Laude.
